Your map is one of a kind, and we want it to arrive that way. Shipping Protection guarantees a free replacement if anything happens on the way to you.
What's covered

How it works
If something goes wrong, email us at [email] within [14] days of the delivery date (or the expected delivery date for lost packages). For damage, include a photo of the artwork and packaging. We'll reprint your piece and ship it again at no cost, usually within [X] business days.
Good to know
- Shipping Protection applies to physical orders shipped within the US. Digital orders don't need it.
- It doesn't cover incorrect or incomplete addresses entered at checkout, so please double-check before you order.
- Shipping Protection is optional and non-refundable once your order ships.

What to expect when you order
1. Order Placed · Art Queue
Our artists get to work finding a vintage map for each of your places and composing your print. It's hours of hands-on work, so expect your proofs by email within about 48 hours.
Need it by a certain date? Just reply to your order email and we'll plan around it.
2. Two Proofs, Your Pick
Nothing is printed until you've had a chance to see and approve your artwork.
Two proofs are sent initially with each order - tell us which you prefer and we'll go from there.
3. Printed, Packed & Shipped
Once you approve, we print, quality-check, pack and ship your order.
Digital orders are sent via email.

Framing Details
Framed Prints
Our wood frames offer a classic look that fits most rooms.
Black and white frames are painted with a satin sheen. Gold and silver frames are painted with a brushed metallic finish. Walnut and natural wood frames show the wood grain.
The artwork is covered by ship-safe glass alternative, Acrylite.
The back of the frame is sealed with kraft paper.
Framing adds 1.25" to each dimension. For a 12"x12" print, the framed full dimension is 13.25"x13.25". The frame face is 0.75" wide, and depth is 1.25"
Framed Canvas
Our premium offering. The frame floats about a third of an inch from the canvas for an elegant but modern look.
Black and white frames are painted with a satin sheen. Gold and silver frames are painted with a brushed metallic finish. Walnut and natural wood frames show the wood grain.
The frame is 1.75" deep and is able to stand on a ledge on its own instead of being hung. The canvas protrudes slightly, so the total depth is 1.9". Framing adds 1.25" to each dimension, so a 12"x12" item artwork's full dimension are 13.25"x13.25".
Your artwork is printed on a 330 gsm textured poly-faux-canvas (not linen). Easy to clean with mild soap and water.

Ready to frame yourself, or reuse a unique frame. For best results, measure your frame’s opening and add it to Your Notes.
If your frame's size doesn't match one of our standardized sizes, we can print on oversized paper for trimming at home.
Your artwork is printed on a pre-cardstock 230 gsm premium matte paper in high quality 300 dpi resolution.
Larger prints ship rolled. Lay yours under a few books for a few hours to make framing easier.
Digital Only
The fastest option - perfect if if you don't have time for shipping.
Great for international orders, with no customs fees, import duties, or astronomical overseas shipping costs.
After approval, you receive a 300 dpi print-ready file via a Google Drive link.

Finding a frame
Many retailers carry a selection of frames (call ahead and save yourself a trip)
- Amazon, Etsy, and Walmart.com have many options at great prices
- Thrift stores like Goodwill or Savers can carry some very unique and interesting frames at bargain prices
- Target, Walmart, Ikea are all great if you want to see it in person
- Frameology.com carries many frame styles if you want to ship a beautiful ready-to-hang piece to someone.

The Artist & Designer
A programmer by trade and active artist & musician. Peter started Custom Family Gifts in 2019 with his wife Mei and is the designer of the collection, as well as the map archivist. He's a practitioner of the golden ratio and rule of thirds.

What if I don't like my artwork?
You get to see your artwork as proofs before it's printed. Anytime before approval you can request a refund if you do not want to proceed.

Can I order additional copies?
Yes, identical or near identical copies are offered at cost. We only charge for printing and shipping for additional copies. Just ask.
What work goes into my artwork?
We do research on all your locations - pulling up many options for each place so we can balance and match the set.
We try our hardest not to repeat similar colors or styles next to each other, and as the map count goes up, that balancing act gets more and more difficult.
Special attention is paid to the text that you provide, we will position and balance or even embellish the artwork to make it really pop.
Can I use a photo instead of a map?
Yes, any of our "map sections" work perfectly well with photos. We offer color correction and light image manipulation such as removing unwanted details at no extra charge.
What if I need additional copies?
For copies, or very similar prints (varying the text by a bit, for example) we charge only the cost of printing.
If you have a digital copy you're also free to reproduce it as many times as you want.
Can I get it by [date]?
Because of our unlimited revision policy, and the variable nature of shipping, it's difficult give exact dates for delivery. Though we are very good at estimating. Tell us your dates and we'll do our best to pull the right strings to make it work.
What if my place is tiny or remote?
Over the years there have only been a handful of locations we've been unable to map. For the vast majority of places, we have multiple map options.
Whether it's remote, small, or obscure, I bet you we can find a map for it.
Can I ship directly to the recipient?
Yes, we can also include a gift note so your loved ones know who sent them this awesome gift.
Do you ship internationally?
Canada, definitely. Rest of the world, please ask. In the current year, it's often times much easier to order digital and arrange for a local print shop to take over.
Can I make changes to my order?
Yes! Add or remove locations even after you've placed your order.
Change locations, add or alter text. We can even switch designs. Just ask.
Can I make copies myself?
Yes! You are free to reproduce your copy of the artwork, as many times as you want. We claim no rights to your specific artwork.
Where do I print my digital files?
Prints can be done at FedEx Office, Office Depot, or any local print shop. Many stores accept emailed files for pickup when ready. Ready-to-hang same day prints can be found at Walmart Photo and many pharmacies.
